Johann Gottlieb Hardt (born September 18, 1658 in Loburg , † December 20, 1713 in Leipzig ) was a German logician and metaphysician .

Life

Johann Gottlieb Hardt was the son of the then inspector and pastor at the Laurentius Church and later cathedral preacher in Magdeburg Bacharias Hardt (around 1625 in Lauban, Silesia; † December 26, 1698 in Magdeburg) and his wife Martha (born September 23, 1637 in Halle; † March 7, 1681 in Magdeburg). Martha was the daughter of the council in Halle (Saale) Valentin Veltheim and his wife Chatharina, daughter of the Magdeburg castle baker Christoph Drechsler.

Johann Gottlieb Hardt completed his studies at the University of Leipzig , where he acquired the academic degree of a master's degree in philosophy. After completing his habilitation in Leipzig, he became an assessor at the philosophical faculty and as such received an appointment as rector of the old town high school in Magdeburg, which he turned down. Hardt, who had also made a name for himself as a Latin poet, became professor of logic and metaphysics in 1697 after the death of Valentin Alberti . As such, he had headed the rectorate of the Alma Mater in the summer semesters 1701, 1709 and 1713 . His last term in office was not without problems, as there was a student riot. He died of gout shortly after completing his last term as rector.
