Johann Heinrich Ludwig von Bismark

Baron Johann Heinrich Ludwig von Bismark (* 1774 in Windheim ; † March 31, 1816 in Biebrich ) was an adjutant general in the Ducal Nassau Army from 1806–1814 .

origin

His parents were Heinrich Christian von Bismarck (* March 12, 1737; † February 14, 1804) and his wife Klara Margarethe Catharina Luise Spannuth (* October 23, 1746; † June 24, 1787). The Württemberg Lieutenant General Friedrich Wilhelm von Bismarck (1783–1860) was his brother.

Life

Bismark served in the Hanoverian cavalry for 11 years and moved to the newly established Kurmainzer so-called "Scheithersche Jägerkorps" in 1800 . The corps was set up in 1800 with British subsidies for the elector for the fight against France . It consisted of four complete and above all combat experienced companies. Nassau took over this after negotiations with the elector at the end of 1802 in full gear and armament. It formed the core of the Nassau army for the next few years.

Bismark served in the III. Nassau battalion and on May 28, 1804 became major of the mounted hunters. On October 7, 1806 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel and at the same time appointed first adjutant general of the Nassau army. The adjutant general was the duke's military deputy who acted as commander in chief.

On September 4, 1808 he was promoted to colonel and in 1813 appointed director general of the military administration. In 1814 he was the commander of the brigade during the blockade of Mainz . In September 1814 he was appointed court marshal in court service.

family

He married Anna Maria von Breidbach-Bürresheim called von Riedt (* March 14, 1789, † December 31, 1871). The couple had several children:

  • Karl Friedrich Alexander, Count von Bismarck (* February 5, 1814 - April 11, 1892), Naussau major a. D.
