Johann Heinrich Master

Johann Heinrich Meister (born February 6, 1700 in Stein am Rhein , † July 27, 1781 in Küssnacht ) was a Swiss Protestant theologian and clergyman .

Life

Meister was born the son of a deacon and studied at the University of Zurich . He received his ordination in 1719 and subsequently worked as a pastor and tutor in the canton of Bern . From 1721 he was active as a preacher in a French community in Bayreuth and moved to Schwabach in 1730 . He was appointed court preacher to Count Albrecht Wolfgang in 1733; In 1747 he took on another preaching position in a French congregation, this time in Erlangen . In 1757 he moved back to Switzerland to become pastor in Küssnacht. He stayed in this position until his death at the age of 81.

His son Jakob Heinrich Meister was a writer.
