The Charlotte Checkers are an American ice hockey franchise based in Charlotte , North Carolina . It has played in the American Hockey League since the 2010/11 season .
history
The company MAK Hockey, LLC, acquired in February 2010, the rights to the financially unprofitable for some time AHL - Franchise of the Albany River Rats of Albany , New York , whose owner Capital Distric Sports, Inc. and moved the team to Charlotte, North Carolina to, where they have been playing the AHL under the name Charlotte Checkers since the 2010/11 season . MAK Hockey had previously owned a team of the same name in the ECHL , but the license was given up after the AHL franchise was acquired. Charlotte will also succeed Albany as the farm team of the NHL team of the Carolina Hurricanes, which is also based in North Carolina .
