Johann III. (Mecklenburg-Stargard)
Johann III, Duke of Mecklenburg [-Stargard] (* 1389 ; † after November 11, 1438 ) was Duke of Mecklenburg from 1416 to 1438 , Lord of Stargard , Sternberg , Friedland , Fürstenberg and Lychen . To distinguish it from Johann V of Mecklenburg, it was also called Johann the Elder .
family
He was the oldest child from the marriage of Duke Johann II and his wife Katharine ( Wilheida ).
biography
Johann III. was probably born in 1389 and took over the rule of Sternberg from his father in 1416. For unknown reasons he was taken prisoner in Brandenburg, from which he was released on June 28, 1427 under the oath of fiefdom. In 1436 he inherited the rule of Werle together with his cousin Heinrich zu Mecklenburg-Stargard and the Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Heinrich IV . He married Luttrud, daughter of Albrecht IV of Anhalt-Köthen . She was probably a sister of Anna, the first wife of Wilhelm , the last Prince of Werle (Wenden). The marriage probably remained childless, in any case his cousin Heinrich zu Mecklenburg [-Stagard] inherited the land. Duke Johann III. was probably buried in Sternberg.
