Johann Jakob Frey (editor)

Johann Jakob Frey (born August 24, 1858 in Lichtensteig ; † January 25, 1925 in Herisau ; resident in Mogelsberg ) was a Swiss textile entrepreneur, journalist , editor and politician from the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden .

Life

Johann Jakob Frey was the son of the poor master baker Johann Georg Frey and Susanna Barbara Frey, née Früh. In 1880 he married Anna Rüdisühli, daughter of Jakob Rüdisühli, Fahrknecht. Johann Jakob Frey grew up with foster parents in Mogelsberg. The foster father's death in 1871 prevented him from attending secondary school. Johann Georg Tanner then gave him an apprenticeship in the Hauser and Signer finishes in Herisau. From 1877 to 1879 he continued his education in Saint-Quentin ( Picardy ). From 1879 to 1881 he was employed by the finishing company Meyer & Co. in Herisau. From 1881 to 1891 he was the technical manager in finishes in St. Gallen and Herisau. In addition, he led a journalistic career from 1886 as a correspondent and from 1891 to 1924 as editor of the '' Appenzeller Zeitung '' . Under the direction of the former Grütlian Frey, this was the standard bearer of the liberal spirit . Johann Jakob Frey was a co-founder of the Ausserrhoder Free Democratic Party (FDP) in 1910 . For many years he was the president and actuary of the Herisau Liberal Democratic Party.
