Johann Josef Grether

Johann Josef Grether (born June 22, 1840 in Lörrach ; † December 16, 1910 there ) was a beer brewer, farmer and mayor of Lörrach from 1872 to 1906 . He was the last honorary mayor in the city's history.

Life

Johann Josef Grether's father acquired the Enderlinsche Brewery, today's Lasser Brewery . In 1866 he founded the Lörrach advance payment bank, of which he was chairman until his death. From 1875 he was elected to the district committee, from 1890 he was on the supervisory board of the district mortgage bank. From 1896 on he was a director of the district savings bank. From 1871 to 1877 he was a member of the second chamber of the state parliament for the National Liberal Party , and later for the Free People's Party .
