Johann Konrad Gmelin

Johann Konrad Gmelin (born August 2, 1707 in Tübingen ; † June 19, 1759 there ; also Johann Conrad Gmelin ) was a German physician and pharmacist ; he is the progenitor of a branch of the well-known Tübingen scholar family of the Gmelins.

Life

Johann Konrad Gmelin was born as the son of Johann Georg Gmelin on August 2, 1707 in Tübingen. Trained as a chemist and pharmacist by his father , he studied at the University of Regensburg in 1726 , then traveled through Poland and Hungary , where he was particularly concerned with mines and salt works . The return journey took him through Leipzig and Dresden , where he made friends with other scholars. He then attended lectures at Leiden University for two years and returned to his hometown in 1730. He took over a part of the famous pharmacy of his father, his doctorate for doctor and himself lectured at the University of Tuebingen . He also made a name for himself as a general practitioner. Gmelin died on June 19, 1759 in Tübingen.

On November 6, 1731 he married Marie Veronika Erhardt in Tübingen, and together they had 15 sons and daughters. He is the founder of the older Tübingen line of the Gmelin family.
