Johann Ludwig Konrad Allendorf

Johann Ludwig Konrad Allendorf (born February 9, 1693 in Josbach ; † June 3, 1773 in Halle (Saale) ) was a German educator, Lutheran pastor and poet of hymns .

Life

Allendorf was the son of the Lutheran pastor Johann Jeremias Allendorf. He studied in Giessen from 1711 and from 1713 with August Hermann Francke in Halle. In 1717 he accepted a position as court master with Count Henkel in Odersberg am Westerwald. From 1723 he was educator for Reichsgraf Erdmann II. Von Promnitz in Sorau (Niederlausitz).

When one of the Promnitz-raised daughters married the Reformed Prince August Ludwig von Anhalt-Köthen in 1724 , he accompanied her to Köthen as her personal pastor . In the two decades of his activity there he wrote several books of hymns, including the Pietistic Cöthnian songs from 1736 . After the Princess's death, he went to Wernigerode as a pastor in 1750 and from here to neighboring Nöschenrode in 1755 . From the end of 1759 he worked as a pastor at St. Ulrich in Halle (Saale), where he also taught at the Lutheran grammar school.

Allendorf composed a total of 132 hymns, including "Jesus is coming, reason for everlasting joy" ( EG No. 66) and "Your word, Lord, brings us together" (EG - Regional Part Bavaria / Thuringia No. 587).
