Johann Nepomuk Buchinger

Johann Nepomuk Buchinger (born May 8, 1781 in Altötting ; † February 27, 1870 in Munich ) was a German archivist , lawyer and historian .

Life

Buchinger was the son of the lawyer Alois Puechinger. After graduating from high school in 1800, he studied law at the (today's) Wilhelmsgymnasium Munich at the University of Landshut and was awarded a Dr. iur. PhD . He then worked in the administration in Munich, then as a tax commission registrar secretary in the Lower Danube District, before he was assigned to the newly founded Reichsarchiv in Munich in 1812 under Karl Heinrich von Lang . During his time at the archives he was active as a writer.

Buchinger came to the Würzburg State Archives as archivist in 1829 . At the same time, he gave lectures on constitutional and international law at the University of Würzburg . In 1835 he returned to Munich as an archivist. In the years 1848 and 1849 he worked there as a Reich archivist. He also held lectureships for constitutional and international law at the University of Munich . He was later appointed honorary professor at this university . In 1847 the Royal Bavarian Academy of Sciences accepted him as a full member.

Buchinger appeared in 1852 in the retirement .
