Johann Pleikard Bitthäuser (born April 4 or 7, 1774 in Bütthard ; † July 23 or 24, 1859 ) was a German engraver .

Life

Johann Pleikard Bitthäuser was trained by Johann Gotthard Müller in Stuttgart and later became professor of engraving in Würzburg . Many of his engravings were published in Johann Friedrich Frauenholz 'Verlag. He made a copy of Morghen's engraving based on Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper , a Susanna in the bath based on a model by Domenichino , a Madonna based on Parmigianino , a conversation between Emperor Augustus and Cleopatra based on Anton Raphael Mengs and numerous portraits, including one by the sculptor Philipp Jakob Scheffauer and a portrait of Cranach, which was intended for Heller's Cranach monograph and was also printed in Jäck's Pantheon of Bamberg's writers and artists .

A drawing by Bitthauser, which reproduces the portrait of Johann Melchior Söllner, burned on March 16, 1945 and located in the Mainfränkisches Museum , is in this museum. It dates from 1834. The monument of Scheffauer's husband's tenderness and love of the people was also not preserved in the original . Bitthäuser engraved one of the bas-reliefs after a drawing by Jakob Gauermann .
