Johann Sithmann

Johann Sithmann (born November 3, 1602 in Stettin ; † October 23, 1666 ) was a German lawyer .

Life

The available biographical information on Sithmann's life is sparse. Sithmann was born in Stettin as the son of court judge and lawyer Johannes Sithmann, studied law at the University of Greifswald (possibly also at the University of Rostock for a while ) and acquired a doctorate in both rights in Greifswald in 1635 (JUD = Juris Utriusque Doctor ). He initially worked as a court attorney and from 1647/48 worked as a professor at the grammar school in Alten-Stettin . His main field of work was Roman law .

His work on canon law Idea iuris episcopalis moderni was placed on the index of forbidden books by the Roman Catholic Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in 1661 .
