Johann Thomas Wancura

Johann Thomas Wancura (born February 6, 1869 in Třeboň ( Wittingau ), Austria-Hungary, today the Czech Republic ; † June 23, 1939 in Vienna ) was an Austrian bank manager and politician .

Life

Johann Thomas Wancura graduated after attending the national and public school , a trade school . In 1884 he began to work as an intern in the bank of his brother-in-law Karl Schelhammer , where he quickly made a career and became an authorized officer. In 1902 he rose to become a partner with Wilhelm Simon , and in 1909 took over the Vienna-based bank Schelhammer & Schattera as sole owner . In 1910 he was appointed to the Imperial Council , which was followed in 1918 by the appointment to the Commercial Council .

In November 1924 Wancura was elected for the first time for the Christian Social Party (CSP) as the successor to Ernst Wense in the National Council, to which he initially belonged until May 1927. On August 2, 1932, he again took over a seat in parliament for the CSP, succeeding the late Ignaz Seipel . He sat on the National Council until May 1934. In the corporate state he was then councilor of the city of Vienna .

In addition to his political work, Wancura was also active in the economic life of Austria and Vienna, so that in 1935 he was elected President of the Vienna Stock Exchange Chamber and Vice President of the Austrian Bankers Association. Since he also tried to help the Roman Catholic Church in Austria , he was appointed papal chamberlain .
