Johann Wilhelm Ferdinand von Reuter (born February 3, 1782 in Rügenwalde ( Schlawe district ), † January 2, 1860 in Koblenz ) was a royal Prussian major general and most recently the commandant of the Saarlouis fortress . He was raised to the Prussian nobility in 1826 as von Reuter .

His parents were the mayor of Rügenwalde Johann Emanuel Reuter (* February 20, 1739; † July 20, 1797) and his wife Charlotte Friederike Westphal .

Life

He joined the Field Artillery Corps on September 11, 1798 as a bombardier. There he was promoted to second lieutenant on September 15, 1806 . As such, he took part in the Fourth Coalition War, where he excelled in the defense of Graudenz .

After the Treaty of Tilsit , he joined the Brandenburg Artillery Brigade on February 21, 1809. On December 8, 1809 he received the order Pour le Mérite for Graudenz . During the wars of liberation he acquired the Iron Cross 2nd class in the battle of Bautzen , and then fought at Großgörschen , Dresden and Kulm . Near Leipzig he acquired the Iron Cross 1st Class and the Russian Order of St. Vladimir 4th Class . He was also involved in Laon , Ligny and Belle Alliance as well as the battles at Haynau , La Fere, Avesnes, Sevres and Issy and the blockade of Erfurt. He came to the Guards Artillery Brigade on June 1, 1814, where he was appointed Premier Lieutenant on August 31, 1814 .

On July 24, 1815, he became the real captain and chief of the 8th Foot Artillery Company of the Guard Artillery Brigade. On August 1, 1821, he was promoted to major and at the same time appointed commander of the 1st division of the Guards Artillery Brigade. On May 13, 1826, he was raised to the Prussian nobility in consideration of the faithful services rendered . On February 11, 1831 he was ad interim brigadier of the 4th Artillery Brigade, on November 18, 1831 he was confirmed as a brigadier. On September 15, 1833, he received the Order of the Red Eagle, 4th class . On March 30, 1838 he was promoted to colonel and on September 15, 1838 the Order of the Red Eagle, 3rd class with ribbon, and on October 5, 1838, the Russian Order of St. Anne, 2nd class .

On 22 March 1843 he was a commander in the fortress Saarlouis added plus in the 5th Artillery Brigade on 8 April 1843 aggregated . In addition, he was appointed major general on March 30, 1844 and received the Order of the Red Eagle 2nd Class with Oak Leaves on September 23, 1844. On March 2, 1848, he was removed from his position to be made available to the Commanding General of the VIII Army Corps. On April 11, 1848, he was retired with a pension. He died on January 2, 1860 in Koblenz.
