Johann Wilhelm Ganglberger (born May 20, 1876 in Pressbaum ; † January 20, 1938 in Vienna ) was an Austrian violinist , composer and music director .

Life

He studied harmony and counterpoint with Richard Heuberger , then had violin and piano lessons at the Kaiser music school before he became the first violinist in the military music group in Vienna. From 1896 to 1899 he studied at the Conservatory of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde ( clarinet with Franz Bartolomey and harmony with Franz Krenn ). Kapellmeister in Finland, Russia and Germany, from 1901 conductor with Carl Michael Ziehrer and first violinist and orchestra director with E. Kaiser, had his own concert orchestra from 1903, which he conducted at exhibitions, concerts, balls and also on tours (in America 1908) . From 1912 concert and music director at the Vienna City Hall and from 1925 at RAVAG in Vienna. His pieces of music "Gute Nacht, mein Wien", "Wilde Rosen" and the solo piece for bassoon "Mein Teddybär" became famous as the first radio hit .

His daughter Marianne was a pianist and music teacher and his nephew Franz pioneered the Hawaiian guitar in Austria.

He found his final resting place in an honorary grave of the City of Vienna in the Vienna Central Cemetery (Gr. 33A, R. 1, No. 16)
