history

Although there were numerous supporters of the Reformation in Weil der Stadt, the imperial city remained true to Catholicism . The Protestants had to leave the city. From the Thirty Years' War to the end of the Free Imperial City, there were no more Protestants here. With the affiliation to Württemberg a small evangelical community emerged again. It was initially looked after from Schafhausen and Merklingen . The hospital chapel has been made available to her for church services since 1869 . In 1887 an independent parish was formed.

The construction of the Johannes-Brenz-Church would not have been possible in all of Germany without the collection of the Gustav-Adolf-Werk , and the King of Württemberg also supported the construction of the church. The building site cost 1,463.20 marks, the church 82,000 marks. In 1970/1977 the church was extensively renovated .
