Johannes Bieler

Johannes Bieler (born June 16, 1935 in Danzig ; † July 4, 2014 in Hude ) was a German clergyman and apostolic visitor.

Life

Bieler was ordained a priest of the diocese of Münster on February 2, 1961 . After years of chaplaincy in Rheine and Duisburg-Rheinhausen , he came to the island of Wangerooge as parish rector in 1965 . In 1969 he became a military pastor in Emden and in 1971 in Wilhelmshaven . In the period up to 1977 he was on board many naval ships as a pastor.

From 1977 to 2004 Bieler worked as a seafarer pastor in Bremen, Bremerhaven and in the Oldenburg Weser ports of Elsfleth , Brake and Nordenham . Until 1986 he was also a state police chaplain in Bremen.

In 1986 Pope John Paul II appointed Bieler to the papal honorary prelate and apostolic visitor for priests and believers in the diocese of Danzig , based in Bremen. In 2010 he resigned from this office.
