Jan Fethke

Jan Fethke , pseudonym Jean Forge , (* 26. February 1903 in Opole ; † 16th December 1980 in Berlin ) was a German-Polish film director , screenwriter and Esperanto - writer .

Life

Jan Fethke first attended the classical grammar school in Opole and later lived in Bromberg . In 1923 and 1924 he studied at the Technical University of Danzig and worked for a local newspaper. Then he moved to Berlin.

In 1919 Jan Fethke, like his brothers Stefan and Edmund, learned the international language Esperanto . In 1922 he became editor of the magazine Esperanto Triumfonta (about: Esperanto on the way to triumph ). He dubbed the film Tomorrow begins the life of Werner Hochbaum in Esperanto and showed it under the title Morgaŭ ni komencos la vivon at the 26th World Esperanto Congress in Stockholm in 1934 .

At the age of 18 Jan Fethke wrote his first German-language detective novel The Stuffed Parrot.

From 1923 he published his novels in Esperanto, which he published under the pseudonym Jean Forge: Abismoj (Abysses) (1923), Saltego trans jarmiloj (Jump over millennia) (1924) and Mr. Tot aĉetas mil okulojn (1931). This was his greatest achievement. The book was translated into several languages ​​and published in 1960 by Fritz Lang under the title Die 1000 Augen des Dr. Mabuse filmed.

In Berlin, Jan Fethke became an assistant director and screenwriter at UFA , among others under Fritz Lang. After the Second World War he became known as a film director in Poland . In 1960 he went to Berlin (West).
