Johannes Hahn (organ builder)

Johannes Hahn (* 1712 in Leutschau , Upper Hungary , Habsburg Monarchy ; † March 13, 1783 in Sibiu , Transylvania , Habsburg Monarchy) was a German organ builder in Transylvania.

Life

Johannes Hahn was baptized on March 15, 1712 as the son of Michael and Susanna Hahn in Leutschau in Upper Hungary (today Levoča in Slovakia). He came to Hermannstadt (today Sibiu) and became one of the most important baroque organ builders in Transylvania.

He was married to Sara Christina Hahn, their son Johannes Hahn jun. (* June 25, 1763; † November 9, 1814) took over the workshop of the father after his death in 1783. Another student was probably Johann Samuel Maetz.

Johannes Hahn built organs in Transylvania, some of which have been preserved as important evidence of the Baroque organ building there.
