Johannes Hansen (Agronomist)

Johannes Nicolaus Hansen (born March 9, 1863 in Nadelhöft, Flensburg district ; † January 3, 1938 in Berlin-Zehlendorf ) was a German agricultural scientist and university professor.

Live and act

Hansen studied in Kiel and Jena from 1883 to 1886 . In 1886 he received his doctorate from Theodor von der Goltz in Jena. Hansen then worked as an agriculture teacher in Neisse, Dargun (in Mecklenburg) and Zwätze near Jena. From 1889 to 1897 he was director of the agricultural school in Zwätze . In 1896 he completed his habilitation at the University of Jena . From 1897 to 1901 he headed the majority rule in Oberglogau (Silesia). In 1901 Hansen was appointed full professor for animal breeding at the Agricultural Academy in Poppelsdorf and in 1910 appointed full professor and director of the Agricultural Institute at the University of Königsberg . From 1911 to 1921 Hansen was also an associate member of the Chamber of Agriculture. In the 1917/18 year of office, Hansen was elected rector of the University of Königsberg. In 1922 he took over the chair for animal breeding at the Agricultural University in Berlin. In 1924/25 Hansen was rector of the Agricultural University in Berlin . He retired in Berlin in March 1929.

Hansen was considered one of the leading agricultural scientists of his time. His main field of work was animal breeding, especially cattle breeding. He was a member of the Corps Agraria Bonn.

Politically, Hansen emerged as a leading member of the Pan-German Association , especially during his time in Königsberg .
