Johannes Herrmann (theologian)

Johannes Gerhard Gustav Herrmann (born December 7, 1880 in Nossen ; † February 6, 1960 in Münster ) was a German Protestant theologian and Old Testament scholar.

Life

Johannes Herrmann studied Protestant theology in Leipzig from 1901 to 1905 , where he was a student of Rudolf Kittel . After completing his studies, in 1905 he first became inspector of the Protestant theological home in Vienna . From 1907 to 1909 Herrmann was a private lecturer at the University of Vienna , from 1909 to 1910 at the Albertus University of Königsberg . In Breslau he became adjunct professor in 1910 and a member of the Wingolf there in 1911 . From 1913 to 1922 he was a full professor at the University of Rostock . There he held the office of dean from 1915 to 1916 and again in 1919 . Finally, he worked from 1922 until his retirement in 1949 as a full professor of the Old Testament and Hebrew Philology at the Westphalian Wilhelms University , of which he was rector from 1931 to 1932.
