Johann Ketzmann

Johann Ketzmann (born July 13, 1487 in Schwabach , † August 23, 1542 in Nuremberg ) was a German Lutheran theologian and educator .

Life

Ketzmann completed his studies at the University of Ingolstadt as a Magister. He then worked in Styria and as a cantor in Buda , Hungary, under the theologian Simon Grynaeus , who only later became famous in Basel.

In 1517 Ketzmann took over the rectorate of the St. Lorenz School in Nuremberg from the humanist Johannes Cochlaeus . He became the first Protestant rector and remained so until his death. Among his students were the reformers Paul Eber and Ulrich Sitzinger .

From 1522 Andreas Osiander became pastor in St. Lorenz , who in 1525 became the main speaker of the Protestant side at the Nuremberg Religious Discussion and Ketzmann was active as a clerk.

In the dispute over the Hersbruck school regulations, he was appointed as an appraiser by the council of the imperial city of Nuremberg in 1535 . In 1541 Veit Dietrich invited Ketzmann and Michael Roting to a meeting with Professor Franz Magera from Patras .

Johann Ketzmann was the uncle of the theologian Petrus Ketzmann , he last lived in the Catherine's Monastery in Nuremberg and was buried on August 30, 1542 in the Catherine's Cemetery in Nuremberg.
