Johannes Kretzschmar (born April 27, 1898 - † January 3, 1957 ) was a German songwriter .

Life

Johannes Kretzschmar lived in Leipzig and also worked as a bookseller. Along with Arnold Bormann (1894–1970) and Helmut Kießling (1912–1971), he was one of the first lyricists in Eastern Germany. From 1947 to 1957 the Harth Musik Verlag Leipzig-Berlin published more than 60 songs with his texts. Numerous works with his texts were also published by the music publisher Lied der Zeit Berlin. Often he wrote his lyrics afterwards for the finished music. On Johannes Kretzschmar's piano there was always a pile of notes with melodies for which the words and rhymes still had to be found. He also composed the music for some of his texts.
