Johannes Liessem (born November 1, 1637 in Linz am Rhein , † March 3, 1698 in Steinfeld (Kall) ) was a prior of the Premonstratensian Abbey of Steinfeld and pastor of Marmagen .

Life

On December 24, 1657 he entered the Steinfeld convent of the Premonstratensian Order . In 1660 he was ordained a deacon . In 1661 he visited the Collegium Norbertinum of the Premonstratensians in Cologne and prepared here for the ordination of priests at the end of 1662. His first Mass he celebrated on February 3, 1663 in the Norbertine convent Dünnwald near Cologne .

His work is documented in the "Konventualenverzeichnis der Steinfeld Abbey".

As a young deacon, the Steinfeld abbot Johannes Liessem sent to Dünnwald to the local Premonstratensian women's monastery “to support the choir and catechesis ”, as it is called in the Steinfeld abbot chronicle. He remained there as deputy novice master even after he was ordained a priest .

During the plague wave in Cologne in 1665/66 he was the "loyal curator" of the Collegium Norbertinums, the Cologne training center of his order . In 1671 he returned to Steinfeld and took up the post of subprior in 1671. In 1675 he became vice magister there. On the 2nd Easter day in 1677 the convent elected him prior of the Steinfeld Abbey.

After the Marmagen priest Petrus Bodenheim had been elected prior of the Premonstratensian monastery in Niederehe in 1679 and therefore left the parish in Marmagen, Johannes Liessem was appointed as the new pastor in Marmagen on May 14, 1679. His investiture was confirmed by the Cologne vicar general and the archdeacon of the Eifel deanate, the provost of the cathedral in Bonn . Under Johannes Liessem, the village and parish of Marmagen enjoyed a great boom, as evidenced by a church register of the time. During his time, the mill pond and the school building were renewed . More orientated towards pastoral care than its predecessor, a diverse spiritual and cultural life developed.

In 1697, influenced by a serious illness, Johannes Liessem resigned from his pastoral position in Marmagen and returned to Steinfeld Monastery. He died there on March 3, 1698.
