Johannes Polke

Johannes Hermann Polke (born May 20, 1931 in Ludwigsdorf ; † August 7, 2013 in Bad Kreuznach ) was a German Protestant theologian , local researcher and journalist .

Life

Johannes Hermann Polke was born as the eldest of eight children of the architect Hermann Josef Alfred Polke and his wife Hanna Lotte. Raschdorf was born in Ludwigsdorf, Oels district , Silesia . His siblings included the artists Wilfrid Polke and Sigmar Polke . He himself was also artistically, musically and literarily gifted, but more historically and theologically interested.

After attending school in Oels and Dingelstädt , he studied Protestant theology in Halle (Saale) , Berlin , Springfield (Ohio) ( Master of Divinity ) and Göttingen . After the vicariate in Baumholder , Bensberg and Neukirchen-Vluyn , he was ordained pastor on June 29, 1960 by President Beckmann. From 1963 to 1996 he was the pastor in Hüffelsheim and Traisen, Bad Kreuznach district, Rhineland-Palatinate. During his tenure, he was responsible for the renovation of the Evangelical St. Lambertus Church in Hüffelsheim (from 1966 to 1970) and the Evangelical St. Laurentius Church in Traisen (1974).

From 1971 to about 2011 he directed and conducted the Evangelical Church Choir Hüffelsheim-Traisen. Several of his choral compositions were published in the Naheländisches Chorbuch (1990).

From 1964 to 1999 he was an editor at Glaube und Heimat , Simmern . For the public gazette , Bad Kreuznach, he regularly wrote “Words on Sunday” (since 1962) and “Fixed points” (since 2004) on theological topics.

He documented his historical research, beginning with the collection and analysis of extensive archive holdings, in lectures, essays and books on the history of the two churches and the village of Hüffelsheim, Ebernburg and Naheland. In addition, he published some columnist travel reports.

He took on special tasks as a synodal youth pastor , synodal assessor , member of the Rhenish Synod and member of the board of the Ebernburg Foundation.

In 1994 he was awarded the Order of Merit of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate .
