Johannes Scheibler (born March 17, 1628 in Dortmund , † October 5, 1689 in Lennep ) was a German Protestant clergyman.

Life

family

Johannes Scheibler was the son of Christoph Scheibler and his wife's first wife Ursula (* July 11, 1588; † December 20, 1632), daughter of the businessman Moritz Rossbecher from Speyer . His father married Katharina (March 19, 1585 - April 18, 1669), a daughter of the Dortmund merchant Johannes Nies and widow of Dr. jur. Friday. The second marriage was childless. His siblings were:

  • Johann Christoph Scheibler (born January 19, 1612 (baptism) in Gießen , † October 17, 1660 in Lütgendortmund ), from 1639 pastor in Lütgendortmund;

  • Barbara Katharina Scheibler (born June 13, 1617 in Gießen; † unknown), married to Prof. Johann Konrad Schragmüller (1605–1675), from 1639 rector of the University of Marburg and from 1639 pastor in Speyer;

Johannes Scheibler married Katharina (born January 9, 1635 in Darmstadt ; † September 9, 1704 in Burscheid ), daughter of the professor in Giessen and superintendent in Darmstadt Peter Haberkorn . They had thirteen children together:

  • Justus (Jost) Arnold Scheibler (born February 6, 1658 in Lennep, † August 24, 1729 in Dortmund), pastor in Dortmund, superintendent since 1722;
  • Christina Margareta Scheibler (born January 13, 1660 in Lennep; † March 22, 1737 ibid), married to Albert Veltgen (1654–1719), pastor in Seelscheid and from 1680 in Remscheid;
  • Barbara Katharina Scheibler (born June 15, 1662 in Lennep; † June 17, 1662 (funeral) there);

  • Elisabeth Ursula Scheibler (born December 30, 1676 in Lennep; † after March 1736 in Radevormwald ), married to Frantz Vogt , Rector and Senior Pastor in Lennep, Assessor Ministerii.

Career

Johannes Scheibler began studying theology at the University of Rinteln in 1647 , which he later continued at the University of Jena for three years and graduated with Mag. Theol. finished. He became associate professor for church history at the University of Giessen , vicar in Altena and was pastor primarius in Lennep from 1654 to 1689 . From September 7, 1654, until his death, he was general superintendent of the Jülich-Berg Lutheran communities in Jülich and Berg.
