Johannes Simon Nikel

Johannes Simon Nikel (born October 18, 1863 in Sohrau , Province of Silesia , † June 28, 1924 in Breslau ) was a Catholic German theologian of the Old Testament .

Life

After studying Catholic theology and Oriental languages at the Universities of Breslau (1881-1884) and Würzburg (1884-1886) he received his doctorate in 1890. After ordination on June 26, 1886 in Breslau, he was in Rosenberg OS and Königshütte from 1886 to 1890 as a pastor and from 1890 to 1897 high school teacher in Leobschütz , Neisse and Breslau. From 1897 he taught at the University of Breslau, first as an extraordinary, from 1900 as a full professor of Old Testament exegesis. In 1907 he was appointed consultor of the Pontificia Commisio de re biblica . From 1913 he was canon , from 1921 also provost at the Breslau cathedral and from 1921 apostolic protonotary .
