John Alfred Osborne

John Alfred Osborne (born May 27, 1935 in St. Peters , Montserrat , † January 2, 2011 in Boston , USA) was a Montserrat politician and Chief Minister of Montserrat .

Osborne studied civil engineering at Paddington Technical College in London , hydraulic engineering at Mirtshals College in Denmark and mechanical engineering at the Gardner School of Engineering in England. He then worked for British Rail from 1955 to 1958 as a technical engineer. From 1960 to 2000 Osborne was the company director of Great Western Shipping . He was a member of the New People's Liberation Movement and was elected to parliament for the first time in March 1966 , to which he was a member until 2001. Between 1978 and 1991 and between 2001 and 2006, Osborne was the Chief Minister of Montserrat. In the government of Lowell Lewis , he served as education minister until March 31, 2009 . He was then acting minister from June 18 to September 7, 2009.

Osborne received an honorary doctorate from the American University of the Caribbean . Montserrat International Commercial Airport was renamed John A. Osborne Airport in July 2008 .

Osborne was married and had eleven children. His hobbies included fishing and sailing .
