John Aloisi (born February 5, 1976 in Adelaide ) is a former Australian football player with Italian roots.
Career
Aloisi began his career in 1991 with Adelaide United in Australia. When he was 15, he made his debut in the Australian league. A year later he moved to Belgium and played for Standard Liège for half a year . The striker moved to league rivals Royal Antwerp in the summer of 1993 . In the winter of 1995 Aloisi left Antwerp after 35 missions in the direction of Italy for US Cremonese . After 18 months with the Lombards, he moved to Portsmouth FC on the island . For Portsmouth he scored 28 goals in a year and a half.
During the winter break of the 1999/98 season, Aloisi moved to Coventry City . There he was unable to assert himself due to injuries and international match nominations and so he left again after 18 months and moved to Spain to CA Osasuna . With Osasuna he reached the final of the Copa del Rey in 2005 , which is his greatest success at club level. In the summer of 2005 he moved to Deportivo Alavés , where he signed a two-year contract. In 2007 Aloisi returned to Australia and played for the Central Coast Mariners , Sydney FC and Melbourne Heart until he retired .
In 2012, Aloisi was introduced as the new Melbourne Heart coach . At the end of 2013 he was dismissed when his team finished last in the A-League with four points after twelve games . In 2015 Aloisi took over the club Brisbane Roar as coach.
National team
For the Australian national team , Aloisi played 55 international matches (27 goals). He made his national team debut in 1997 against Macedonia. Aloisi took part in three Confederation Cup tournaments with Australia ( 1997 , 2001 , 2005 ), in 1997 he reached the final. He was also part of the Australian squad at the 2006 World Cup and the 2007 Asian Cup .
