John Black (politician)
John Black († August 29, 1854 in Winchester , Virginia ) was an American lawyer and politician who represented the state of Mississippi in the US Senate .
John Black's date of birth is unknown; All that has been handed down is that he was born in Massachusetts and initially worked there as a teacher. He later studied law and began practicing law there after relocating to Louisiana . Eventually he settled in Mississippi and was elected judge for the fourth district court in 1826; as a result, he even took a seat on the state's Supreme Court .
Originally a member of the Jackson wing of the Democratic Republicans , Black was named a US Senator by Mississippi's Governor Charles Lynch in 1832 . On November 12th of that year he took up his post in Washington as the successor to the resigned Powhatan Ellis . After the end of his term of office, Black, meanwhile switched to the National Republican Party , stood for re-election and won it. He subsequently joined the Whigs and temporarily chaired the Senate Committee on Private Lands . On January 22, 1838, Black resigned from his mandate.
After the end of his political career, John Black worked as a lawyer in Winchester, where he died in 1854.
