action

The vampire hunter Derek Bliss is commissioned by an anonymous customer to wipe out a group of vampires in Mexico under the rule of the powerful vampire queen Una, who are after the legendary Black Cross of Berziers, which is supposed to help the undead to themselves with the help of a ritual to be able to move outside even in daylight. Since his actual comrades-in-arms were all killed by vampires, Derek is forced to put together a group of hunters, including the fifteen-year-old truant Sancho, the half-vampire Zoey, who uses medicine to fight her thirst for blood, and Father Rodrigo, who survived a vampire massacre in a monastery. The only real hunter is Ray Collins from Memphis.

In a minibus armed to the teeth, the team goes on the trail of the vampires, which are already bloody all over Mexico. Zoey, who has visions due to her "illness", locates Una and her clan who have found shelter in an old factory. On the way there one night Ray is bitten by Una unnoticed by the others. He steals Zoey's medication so that Una manages to take them and move freely during the day.

Derek and his colleagues are in a village near the factory and make friends with one of the residents. That's when Zoey discovers that her pills have disappeared. While she is waiting for the bus to take her to Mexico City to get new medicine, Una kidnaps her and takes her to the ruins of the factory. Derek, Sancho, Ray and Rodrigo follow her to free her. Before they take action, Derek confronts the others, knowing that Zoey's medication must have been stolen. It turns out that it was Ray who is then killed by Derek with the help of the villager.

The others actually succeed in freeing Zoey, but instead of them Rodrigo remains behind, who sacrifices himself for his friends and agrees to help the vampires by performing the ritual that has to be led by a priest.

Back in the village, Zoey, whose vampire blood is gaining more and more upper hand, is removed and human blood is added. This gives Derek the idea of how he could save Rodrigo. He goes through the same procedure, except that he receives vampire blood. So he cannot be recognized as a mortal by the real vampires and sneak unnoticed into the factory, where the ritual is just beginning and from where he frees Rodrigo. He, in turn, is not a priest at all, but only worked in the monastery and thus duped the bloodsuckers. They finally succeed in destroying Una and thus all of their vampire subjects.
