John Edward McCarthy
John Edward McCarthy (born June 21, 1930 in Houston , Texas - † August 18, 2018 in Austin , Texas) was an American clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Austin .
Life
John Edward McCarthy was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Galveston on May 27, 1961 .
Pope John Paul II named him Auxiliary Bishop in Galveston-Houston and Titular Bishop of Petina on January 23, 1979 . The Bishop of Galveston-Houston, John Louis Morkovsky , donated him episcopal ordination on March 14 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Patrick Fernández Flores , Bishop of El Paso , and Lawrence Michael De Falco , Bishop of Amarillo .
He was named Bishop of Austin on December 19, 1985, and inducted into the office on February 25 of the next year. On January 2, 2001, John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
