Vincent Madeley Harris (born October 14, 1913 in Conroe , Texas , USA ; † March 31, 1988 ) was an American clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Austin .

Life

Vincent Madeley Harris received the sacrament of ordination for the Diocese of Galveston on March 19, 1938 .

On July 4, 1966, Pope Paul VI appointed him . first bishop of Beaumont . The Coadjutor Bishop of Galveston-Houston , John Louis Morkovský , gave him on 28 September of the same year in the St. Vincent de Paul Church in Houston , the episcopal ordination ; Co- consecrators were the coadjutor bishop of Wichita , Leo Christopher Byrne , and the bishop of Altoona-Johnstown , James John Hogan . The following day he was instituted in St. Anthony Cathedral in Beaumont by the Archbishop of San Antonio , Robert Emmet Lucey .

On April 27, 1971, he was named Titular Bishop of Rotaria and Coadjutor Bishop of Austin . With the age-related resignation of Bishop Louis Joseph Reicher on November 15 of the same year, he succeeded him as Bishop of Austin.

On February 25, 1985, Pope John Paul II accepted his early resignation.
