John George Clark Anderson

John George Clark Anderson (born December 6, 1870 in Edinkillie , Morayshire , † March 31, 1952 in Oxford ) was a British ancient historian and epigraphist .

Anderson first studied with William Mitchell Ramsay in Aberdeen , who aroused his interest in Asia Minor and its inscriptions. He then studied at Christ Church College , Oxford , where Francis John Haverfield was his teacher and he took the exam in 1896. From 1896 to 1897 Anderson was able to tour Asia Minor with the Craven Fellowship of the British School at Athens . In 1899 he earned his MA in Oxford. From 1900 to 1927 he taught at Christ Church College, in 1919 he was appointed University Lecturer and in 1927 Reader in Roman Epigraphy. From 1927 to 1936, Anderson Camden was Professor of Ancient History at Oxford University .
