John Jude Palencar (2008)

John Jude Palencar (* 1957 in Fairview Park , Ohio ) is an American painter and book illustrator in the field of fantasy , science fiction and horror literature .

Life

John Jude Palencar grew up in the Cleveland , Ohio area. He attended Midpark High School, where he was first taught by an art teacher. After winning some art awards and selling paintings, he decided to pursue an artistic career. Palencar attended Columbus College of Art and Design in Columbus , Ohio, where he graduated in 1980. During his time in college he worked for American Greetings, among others .

His works have appeared on hundreds of book covers by well-known international authors, including novels by HP Lovecraft , Ursula K. Le Guin , Marion Zimmer Bradley , PD James , Charles de Lint , RL Stine , Octavia E. Butler , David Brin, and Stephen King . For the dragon rider tetralogy Eragon by Christopher Paolini , he designed the book covers of all four volumes ( The Legacy of the Dragon Riders , The Order of the Elder , The Wisdom of Fire , The Legacy of Power ).

In 2010 he was nominated for the World Fantasy Award in the Best Artist category.

Palencar lives in Ohio with his wife and two sons.
