John Partridge (* 24. July 1971 in Bury , England ) is a British actor , dancer and singer and has worked since he was seventeen years old again and again as West End - musical performer , v. a. for Andrew Lloyd Webber . His best-known roles are that of Christian Clarke in the BBC soap opera EastEnders and that of Rum Tum Tugger in Lloyd Webber's Musical Cats , which he embodied for ten years on stage and in the film of the same name .

Life

Partridge comes from a working-class family in northern England. His father died when Partridge was 17 years old. Since 2003 he has been in a relationship with the Canadian dancer and actor Jon Tsouras. In April 2010 they announced that they wanted to enter into a civil partnership. They married in October 2011 after eight years of relationship. When asked whether he wanted to convert civil partnership into marriage after the relevant law came into force in Great Britain, he resolutely denied in the spring of 2013 and stated that he fundamentally supports the opening up of marriage to same-sex couples, but considers himself already fully married and wouldn't want to change anything. Partridge's mother has advanced Alzheimer's. In 2012 he largely put his career on hold to take care of her as a full-time carer. In 2014, he reported that due to this task, which was similar to caring for a toddler, he had lost 25 kilograms and had to put all major projects, whether theater or television, on hold.

Career

John Partridge was accepted into the prestigious Royal Ballet Lower School at the age of ten , where he received classical dance training. His further education took him through the Bush Davies School of Theater Arts and the Doreen Bird College of Performing Arts, where he specialized in musical theater. At the age of 16, he left college to join one of Andrew Lloyd-Webber's CATS, which toured England that year. From 1989 to 1990 he was the show's dance captain. He played the roles of Alonzo, Rumpus Cat, Munkustrap, Rum Tum Tugger and Mr. Mistoffelees. In the 1998 film recording of the musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber, he also appeared as Rum Tum Tugger. From 1998 he played the Rum Tum Tugger and Munkustrap (Hamburg) in Germany ( Düsseldorf , Hamburg , Berlin ). It is noticeable that he sang the German lyrics without an accent, although he did not yet speak the language at the time.
In addition to working in musicals, he also works as a television actor and does advertising. Since January 2008 he was part of the cast of the British soap opera EastEnders for 5 years. With his band he recorded various albums, but none of them were released. Since March 2010 he has been a juror on the British talent show "Over the Rainbow", which is looking for the leading actress for a new production of the musical The Wizard of Oz . In 2013 he returned to the musical stage for a few months as Zach in "A Chorus Line" at the Palladium Theater in London. For some years now, John has been seen in various English pantomimes at Christmas time. He is also regularly drawn to the stage as a solo singer, most recently at the London Hippodrome Casino ( West End ) with the title "Dames & Dudes". In September 2014 his album "Dames & Dudes & Cowboys too" was released.
