John Satterthwaite (Bishop of Lismore)

John Steven Satterthwaite (born August 11, 1928 in Randwick , New South Wales , Australia - † April 23, 2016 ) was an Australian clergyman and Roman Catholic Bishop of Lismore .

Life

On March 16, 1957 John Satterthwaite received by the auxiliary bishop in Rome , Luigi Traglia , the ordination for the diocese of Armidale .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on March 6, 1969 titular bishop of Thignica and coadjutor bishop of Lismore. He received his episcopal ordination on May 1st of the same year by the Archbishop of Sydney , Norman Thomas Cardinal Gilroy ; Co- consecrators were Thomas Vincent Cahill , Archbishop of Canberra and Goulburn , and James William Gleeson , Coadjutor Archbishop of Adelaide .

After Patrick Joseph Farrelly's retirement , he succeeded him on September 1, 1971 in the office of Bishop of Lismore.

On December 1, 2001, Pope John Paul II accepted his early resignation.
