Geoffrey Hylton Jarrett

Geoffrey Hylton Jarrett (born December 1, 1937 in Kyneton , Victoria , Australia ) is an Australian clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic Bishop of Lismore .

Life

Anglican priest Geoffrey Hylton Jarrett converted to the Catholic Church in 1965. He was ordained a priest on May 14, 1970 in Sydney by the Archbishop of Hobart , Guilford Clyde Young .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Coadjutor Bishop of Lismore on December 9, 2000 . He received his episcopal ordination from the Archbishop of Sydney , Edward Bede Cardinal Clancy , on February 22nd, 2001 at St. Carthage's Cathedral in Lismore; Co- consecrators were Francesco Canalini , Apostolic Nuncio to Australia , and John Satterthwaite , Bishop of Lismore. As a motto he chose Supra firmam petram .

After the resignation of John Satterthwaite, he succeeded him on December 1, 2001 in the office of Bishop of Lismore and was introduced to the office on December 12 of the same year.

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on December 20, 2016.
