Jonathon Patrick "Jon" Flanagan (born January 1, 1993 in Liverpool ) is an English soccer player who was most recently under contract with the Glasgow Rangers .
Player career
Liverpool FC
Flanagan made his competitive debut on April 11, 2011 in the Premier League against Manchester City , he played the full ninety minutes. Liverpool won the game 3-0. In the following games Flanagan came again and again to inserts for the injured teammates Glen Johnson and Martin Kelly . Flanagan signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool on July 8th. In the 2011/12 season he was used in the opening game against Sunderland. He then played in the League Cup against Exeter City and Brighton & Hove Albion . Flanagan scored his first goal for Liverpool on December 15, 2013 in a 5-0 away win over Tottenham Hotspur . In the following years Flanagan was repeatedly thrown back by injury. He did not appear in the Premier League in the 2012/13 and 2014/15 seasons . In March 2016, his contract was extended long-term under the new coach Jürgen Klopp .
For the 2016/17 season , Flanagan moved to Burnley FC on loan for one year . After half a season at home club Liverpool, in which he did not have a single Premier League appearance, the defender left Anfield Road again on loan. By the end of the 2017/18 season , he should play for the Bolton Wanderers . In June 2018, Flanagan was signed by Scotland's Glasgow Rangers , who are coached by former Liverpool player Steven Gerrard .
English national team
In May 2011 he played once for England's U-19s. In August 2011 he was nominated for his country's U-21 and made his debut on September 1 in a 6-0 win against Azerbaijan . Jon Flanagan made his debut for England's senior football team on June 4, 2014.
