Political career

From February 1974 Evans had run several times in various constituencies for a seat in the British House of Commons. It was not until April 1992 that he made the leap into parliament for Brecon and Radnor . He was a member of the Committees for Wales and of Health and Welfare. From October 1994, with a temporary break, he was a member of the government as Under-Secretary of State , first with the Ministry of Trade and Industry, later with the Lord Chancellor and finally with the Welsh Office . In the next general election in 1997 , he lost his mandate again. Evans then assumed responsibility for the insurance division of Eversheds’s London office .

In the EU elections in June 1999 Evans was able to move into the European Parliament for the constituency of Wales , and he was able to defend the mandate in June 2004 . There he was, among other things, Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Delegation for relations with the United States .

For the 2009 European elections , Evans decided not to run again and instead ran again for a seat in the British House of Commons. In May 2010 , he was able to remove the Cardiff North constituency from Labor MP Julie Morgan by a margin of 194 votes. For the following general election in May 2015 Evans decided not to run again. He justified this by saying that a related term of office until 2020 would be too long for him. Craig Williams was able to defend the constituency for the Conservatives.

Others

Evans has been a member of the Royal Society of Arts since 1995 . He is married and has two daughters and a son with his wife Margaret.
