At the same time he worked on his own literary works. His first publication was the book Buried Fire in 1999. He gave up his work as an editor in 2001 and has since devoted himself entirely to writing books. Today Stroud lives with his wife Gina, a graphic artist who also illustrates children's books , and their children Isabelle, Arthur and Louis in St Albans in Hertfordshire near London.

Honors

On September 24, 2006, Jonathan Stroud was awarded the CORINE Book Prize in the “Young People's Book ” category at a TV gala in Munich. The International Book Prize has been awarded annually since 2001 to authors for outstanding literary achievements and their recognition by the public. The final volume of the Bartimaeus trilogy The Magician's Gate was awarded . The same book was awarded by the jury of young readers for the 2007 Children's Book Prize in the “Children's Book” category. From the reasons given by the jury: “You grow into this book and merge with the story. An increase can be felt from the first to the third volume. The lovingly mature characters present themselves like a prism: first and foremost the genie Bartimaeus, whose witty comments are among the best reading experiences of the book. Then Nathanael, the ambitious sorcerer's apprentice and of course the common kitty, who, impressively described, leads the resistance against the magicians. The change of perspective gives the story something three-dimensional. Jonathan Stroud describes this scenario with wonderful sarcasm and manages without black and white painting. "
