Gerhard Wilhelm "Gerd" Köster (born January 5, 1957 ) is a German singer in Cologne dialect . Musically, he usually appears with Frank Hocker or in a trio with Helmut Krumminga and Frank Hocker.

Career

After graduating from high school and doing his community service in the Riehler Heimstätten retirement home (nine months of which in open psychiatry ), he became the front man of " Schroeder Roadshow ". He later transferred Tom Waits songs to Kölsch without parodying the way he performed (“ The Piano Has Been Drinking ”).

Gerd Köster was also active as a theater actor (among others in " Petrol Station of the Damned ") and musical singer (" The Black Rider ", " Sweeney Todd ", Cologne Opera and " Hedwig and the Angry Inch "). As a speaker of audio books , he read, among other things, " High Fidelity " by Nick Hornby , " Tod und Teufel " by Frank Schätzing and " Popular Music from Vittula " by Mikael Niemi , for which he was nominated for the 2003 German Audio Book Prize .

Other audio books by Köster are the second and third volumes of the " Bartimaeus Trilogy " by Jonathan Stroud and the subsequent volumes, " Bartimaeus - The Eye of the Golem ", " Bartimaeus - The Magician's Gate " and " Bartimaeus - The Ring of Solomon " . He replaced Martin Semmelrogge , who spoke the first volume. In 2012 the audio book “ Blooming Dreams - The Incredible Story of the Money Counterfeiter Jürgen Kuhl ” by Christoph Gottwald , read by Gerd Köster.

In 1986 he performed free of charge at the Anti-WAAhnsinns Festival against the planned Wackersdorf reprocessing plant .

In 2005 Gerd Köster celebrated his 25th stage anniversary together with Frank Hocker . On this occasion, important companions came together with Jürgen Fritz , Bernd Winterschladen , Hans Maahn , Helmut Krumminga and Charly T. (Manfred "Charlie" Terstappen).

Köster also worked as an occasional presenter for the "Spielart" program on the Cologne radio station WDR 5 .

Gerd Köster is the cousin of the actress and cabaret artist Gaby Köster , with whom he stood for many years at the beginning of his career behind the counter in Cologne's Südstadt pub " Out ". It was there in the 1980s that everyone met with a name in Cologne's artistic circles.
