Joost Posthuma (born March 8, 1981 in Hengelo ) is a former Dutch cyclist .

Career

Posthuma became a professional with the Rabobank team in 2004 and got a contract there until 2006. Before that, he was a member of the Rabobank youth team for two years. He proved himself in his special discipline time trial at the Vuelta a España with a tenth and an eleventh place. He achieved his first professional victory in his first ProTour race Paris – Nice after a successful breakaway attempt. In 2005, he took part in the Tour de France for the first time , and he competed five times. When he participated for the second time in 2006, he wore the white jersey as the best youngster during the first stage.

On April 18, 2007, Posthuma had a training accident in Münsterland and was seriously injured. After his injury, he was able to win the Saxony Tour again in July . In the next few years he achieved further round trip victories at the Three Days of De Panne , the Tour of Luxembourg and the Ruta del Sol .

After the 2012 season, he ended his career.
