The 63rd Paris – Nice cycle race took place from March 6th to 13th, 2005. It was held in a prologue and seven stages over a distance of 951.5 kilometers. Originally the course was supposed to be longer, but some stages have been shortened due to bad weather.
94 of the 168 starters reached the finish in Nice . As the only professional continental team was AG2R invited.
The queen's stage led to the city of Toulon on the Mediterranean coast on March 11th . From there, the ascent to the 584 meter high Mont Faron had to be tackled. The Italian Gilberto Simoni secured the stage win single-handedly ahead of Cadel Evans and David Moncoutié .
