The 74th Paris – Nice long-distance journey took place from March 6th to 13th, 2016. The stage race was part of the UCI WorldTour 2016 and within this the second race after the Tour Down Under . The total distance of the race was 1,290 kilometers.

Nacer Bouhanni , who crossed the finish line of the second stage first, was subsequently downgraded to third place. In the final sprint he pushed Michael Matthews off.

Geraint Thomas ( Sky ) won the race to the sun with a four-second lead over Alberto Contador ( Tinkoff ) . Richie Porte ( BMC ) took third place, 12 seconds behind.
