The 78th Gent – Wevelgem 2016 was a one-day race in Belgium in the region of Flanders . It took place on Easter Sunday , March 27, 2016 . The bike race is also part of the UCI WorldTour 2016 and was the seventh of a total of 28 races in the series.
The race was overshadowed by a fall of the Belgian Antoine Demoitié from the Belgian team Wanty-Groupe Gobert , who died of serious head injuries on the night of Easter Monday .
