Jorge Moisés Cori Tello (born July 30, 1995 in Villa El Salvador , Lima ) is a Peruvian chess player . He has the title of grand master . His sister Deysi Cori is also a chess player and holds the title of Grand Master of Women .

Career

At the Pan-American U-10 championships, he shared first place, for which he was awarded the title of FIDE master .

He won the title at the U-14 World Cup in Kemer , Turkey , while his sister was also victorious in the U-16s. In 2009 he achieved his third norm for the grandmaster title . At this point he was 14 years and 2 months old, making him the youngest player in the world to do so at the time. He reached the Elo rating of 2500 necessary for the award of the title in March 2010, whereupon the title was awarded to him in April.

At the American Championships in 2013 in Cochabamba , Bolivia , he finished fourth, qualifying for the 2013 World Chess Cup . There he met Teymur Rəcəbov in the first round , against whom he played a draw in both classic games and won the first game in rapid chess , but lost the second. Due to a misunderstanding, Cori, who doesn't speak English, appeared too late for the first blitz game, which is why he lost the game without a fight due to the controversial zero tolerance rule and was subsequently eliminated.

At the 2016 Chess Olympiad in Baku , Azerbaijan , he had the third-best result of all players on the second board. He was even more successful at the 2018 Chess Olympiad in Batumi , Georgia , where he was the best individual player with 7.5 points from 8 games and an Elo performance of 2925 on board 3, as the first Peruvian in the history of the Chess Olympiads. Cori played for Qingdao in the Chinese team championship in 2014 and for CA Solvay in the 2017 Spanish team championship .
