José Ángel Espinoza
José Ángel Espinoza Aragón , also Ferrusquilla , (born October 2, 1919 in Choix , † November 6, 2015 in Mazatlán ) was a Mexican singer , composer and actor .
Life
José Ángel Espinoza Aragón grew up in the Mexican state of Sinaloa . In 1937 he went to Mexico City with some friends, originally with the aim of studying medicine. There he found work in 1938 at the newly founded radio station XEQ . At first he was an assistant and by chance he later became a radio announcer when the speaker for the character “Ferrusquilla” of the children's program “Fifirafas el Valoroso” was canceled. José Ángel Espinoza Aragón took on the role so successfully that it coined his nickname. XEQ was in tough competition with the broadcaster XEW (although both belonged to the same company), so that the cast was gradually reduced to two people: Blanca Estela Pavón and Ferrusquilla, who had to take on up to eight different roles per broadcast. Humberto G. Tamayo therefore called him the "man of a thousand voices".
Soon, 19-year-old Ferrusquilla and 15-year-old Blanca fell in love and became a couple.
From 1941 he studied at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música . His teachers included the renowned composers Manuel María Ponce and Silvestre Revueltas . He also learned French and English there.
In 1944 Metro Goldwyn Mayer selected around 50 Mexican voice actors, most of them experienced speakers from the radio stations XEQ and XEW. They were given annual contracts and taken to New York. Among them were Ferrusquilla and Blanca. She spoke the role of Ingrid Bergman in "Luz de gas" (original title: Gaslight; German title: Das Haus der Lady Alquist ), while he played Mickey Rooney in "Fuego de juventud" (original title: National Velvet, German title: Kleines Mädchen, big heart ) gave his voice.
All voice actors were enrolled in an English course - but Ferrusquilla was the only one in his course who stayed through to the end and successfully completed it. This made a good impression on the producers who later recommended him for films in Hollywood and Mexico.
Returning from a performance at the Teatro Macedonio Alcalá in Oaxaca de Juárez , Blanca died in 1949 when her plane crashed. Ferrusquilla was only unable to take part in the trip because the organizer did not have enough funds to pay for the performances of both. Ferrusquilla was left with the sad task of identifying the dead.
After Blanca's death, Ferrusquilla turned to music and wrote his first song A los amigos que tengo in 1951 , sung by Pedro Infante .
From 1947/48 the showing of dubbed films was banned in Mexico, but the dubbing of cartoons remained allowed. So Ferrusquilla worked occasionally as a voice actor for Disney from 1953 , u. a. in the role of Smee in the movie Peter Pan .
Private
Ferrusquilla married Sonya Stransky Echeverría in 1951. They had two daughters: on July 11, 1953, Angélica Espinoza Stransky was born, who became known as an actress under the name Angélica Aragón . In 1956 (?) Vindia Espinoza Stransky was born, who died in a traffic accident in 2008. The couple separated after five years. Ferrusquilla also had an illegitimate son, José Ángel Espinoza Saucillo, also known as Ferrusquilla Jr.
