José Efromovich

José Efromovich (* 1955 in La Paz , Bolivia ) is a Brazilian businessman of Polish - Jewish descent. He is President of the Brazilian airline Avianca Brazil and on the board of the AviancaTaca Holding.

Life

His family is originally from Poland. In search of a new home, his parents emigrated to Bolivia after the Second World War , and later to Chile , where the family first settled in Arica from 1955 . In 1964 they then moved to São Paulo , Brazil. His biography is closely linked to that of his brother Germán Efromovich , with whom he founded the Synergy Group , a conglomerate of companies in Brazil in 2003 .

Initially, both of them gave private lessons to young Brazilian students who had to take their school- leaving exams in the Bom Retiro district of São Paulo . Following a good opportunity, they then established a private maturity school in São Bernardo do Campo , which was then converted into a mainstream school . After graduating as a civil engineer from the Mackenzie Institute in São Paulo, he and his brother founded a small engineering company that carried out industrial inspections and quality assessments of oil and gas pipelines in the petroleum refineries of the state-owned Petrobras . The main focus was on technical testing of welds . Later, the diversification of their activities took place by adding two more companies, which operated services for industry and the sale of industrial products, including radioactive materials for medicine . The two brothers then focused their goals on the development and construction of oil rigs . Since one of these rigs sank in the sea and because of a subsequent legal dispute with the insurance company and Petrobras, he turned to the aviation business. This happened more by chance, as one of the customers could not pay in cash, instead he left two planes as a deposit. This was the start of their newest business, an air taxi company. They called it OceanAir and transported workers in the oil industry to and from Rio de Janeiro .
