José Mauro Ramalho de Alarcón Santiago

José Mauro Ramalho de Alarcón Santiago (born May 14, 1925 in Russas , Brazil , † December 9, 2019 in Iguatu ) was a Brazilian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Iguatu .

Life

José Mauro Ramalho de Alarcón Santiago studied philosophy and theology at the seminary of the Archdiocese of Fortaleza. On December 5, 1948, he was ordained a priest for the diocese of Limoeiro do Norte . He was director of the diocesan high school of Limoeiro do Norte and pastor in Aracati.

Pope John XXIII appointed him on October 13, 1961 as the first bishop of the newly established diocese of Iguatu . The bishop of Limoeiro do Norte, Aureliano de Matos , donated him episcopal ordination on January 6 of the next year ; Co- consecrators were José Terceiro de Sousa , Bishop of Penedo , and Vicente de Paulo Araújo Matos , Bishop of Crato .

He participated in all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council as a council father. He was the only remaining conciliar bishop of Brazil who had attended the Second Vatican Council.

On July 26, 2000, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
